  THE GOSPEL OF MARK

"Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him " (Mark 1:41)

  MARK 1:40-45 TEXT

40 A leper came to him begging him, and kneeling he said to him, “If you choose, you can make me clean.” 41 Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, “I do choose. Be made clean!” 42 Immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. 43 After sternly warning him he sent him away at once, 44 saying to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” 45 But he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the word, so that Jesus could no longer go into a town openly, but stayed out in the country; and people came to him from every quarter.

  15. Why was Jesus not afraid? Read 1 John 4:18.

  18. verse 42

  31. What is the word that normally describes spreading the good news?

  32. Are we personally involved in evangelisation?

  33. Do you think there is a right moment and a wrong moment to spread the word? Are you actively attentive for the right moment or do we automatically justify ourselves by saying it is never the right moment and we say nothing?

  34. Why do you think many never share their experience of faith with their friends and acquaintances?

  35. What was the consequence of the ex-leper proclaiming the Good News here? Was it positive or negative?

  36. What could Jesus do before and what could he not do after the miracle? Was the mission of Jesus blocked? Was there a change in approach?
